Literacy Tools for ELA or ESL Students

Non-native, English language learners

How these individuals would use the tools with books, documents & some tech devices:

Use to help decode, syllabicate and learn new or unknown vocabulary and spelling words.
Because some degree of “text overwhelm” may be experienced, the reader can use the tools to help improve focus, more sustained attention, comprehension and retention of content.
Use with portable e-readers and tablets, too. (Protective film required for device screens to prevent scratching with this application.)

By moving the tool’s Reading Notch or Reading Window from left to right over a new or unknown word, readers can easily break it down into phonemes or syllables for more effective learning.
Reader will be able to isolate 1-2 lines of text (depending on font size) with each tool. Surrounding text not needing immediate attention will be covered, decreasing distractions and text overwhelm as well as improving focus, comprehension and retention of content read.
Can also experience more focus when reading e-books and other digital media on e-readers, tablets and other hardware. (Please place protective film on tech device screens to prevent scratching.)
